Calcifediol, also known as 25-hydroxy Vitamin D3, 25-OH Vitamin D3 or 25-hydroxy Cholecalciferol, is an intermediate in the pathway leading to the production of 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D3, the most receptor-active form of vitamin D. Supraphysiological 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 level at admission is associated with illness severity and mortality in critically ill patients. 25-Hydroxy vitamin D3 modulates dendritic cell phenotype and function in Crohn's disease.
