Ceftibuten dihydrate is the dihydrate form of ceftibuten. It is a semisynthetic, beta-lactamase-stable, third-generation cephalosporin with antibacterial activity. Ceftibuten inactivates penicillin-binding proteins located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. This results in the weakening of the bacterial cell wall and causes cell lysis.
