Simvastatin is a competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase. This compound has been shown to modulate purified bovine pituitary 20 S proteasome via mild stimulation of chymotrypsin-like activity and inhibition of peptidylglutamylpeptide hydrolyzing activity. Simvastatin is marketed under the trade name Zocor™ and is often prescribed in combination with ezetimibe to treat dyslipidemia. This drug combination is known commercially as Vytorin or Inegy.
